Nothing is more certain than death, taxes and eye watering probate charges


Late on Friday the 24th of Feb, the Lord Chancellor confirmed that following consultation in February 2016 on a change to Probate Fees in England and Wales, the Government will now shortly bring forward legislation to introduce the new fee basis as outlined in their 2016 consultation document wef “ spring 2017” ( my assumption this means April ). The purpose of this Probate Fee change is to aid cover the cost of running the Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales, it is expected to raise circa £250m for the Exchequer.
