Letter of the week

I am currently an adviser with a restricted adviser and for obvious reasons wish to remain anonymous for now. I am considering moving to be an IFA. My preferred option would be to go DA under the umbrella of someone like Paradigm, although I am not ruling out joining a network. Could anyone please help me with any of the following:- 

  1. Experiences of moving from direct/restricted to IFA 
  2. Thoughts on DA or Network 
  3. Thoughts on support service providers such as Paradigm or Simply Biz 

I have been in the IFA sector before as an adviser, manager and recruiter, so do have some previous experience.

I have worked with networks and directly regulated firms for years. Both have their issues and suit different people in different ways.

You might want to add nationals to your list.

We are launching new business called Alexander House Financial Services and we might be worth checking out as we are trying to learn the lessons of all the previous models.

Dear Jane
If you truly want to be independent neither of the options is for you. Certainly not a network. Bite the bullet and go DA yourself. If you cant/wont do that join a small DA firm work like blazes and who knows you could become a partner.
Alternatively older guys like me are looking out for people who could possibly take over and run the business once we are put out to grass. These last two are in my view the best routes.
