Assessing suitability is one of the most important parts of any advice process and a failure to do so correctly is the most common cause of complaints against investment firms.
In "proposed guidance" issued by the FSA on 7 January, the FSA sets out some key issues that all firms must address in this area - it is expecting every firm to act on the guidance and review its suitability processes.
In the briefing note we have extracted the key points from the proposed guidance and highlighted those areas in which firms need to act.
