CRM API

Another new initiative from Panacea…

If you are looking to measure the success of your marketing against new business then Panacea can then develop an Application Programming Interface (API) from our email platform through to Salesforce (we are also exploring Microsoft Dynamic).

This would mean that as well as providing follow up data from targeted email campaigns via Excel, the Salesforce records would either be updated or new records created enabling leads to become opportunities.

What are the security implications?

In order to do this we would need to be able to authenticate an organisation’s Salesforce installation via the API.  This is what the API is designed to do so there shouldn’t be any security implications unless the organisation has opted not to allow any external access to their installation.

An organisation's Salesforce administrator controls the availability of various features and views by configuring profiles and permission sets, and assigning users to them. Once the “API Enabled” permission has been granted our API can query or update only those objects and fields to which they have access via the permissions of the logged-in user.

For more information about security please view https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.api.meta/api/sforce_api_concepts_security.htm

What activity will cause an update?

  • Completing a form (event registration or guide download etc)
  • Clicking on a link via a solus mail

What will happen once the API is connected?

Dependant upon permissions given we could set up new contacts and/or update existing contacts.

The email address of the individual completing the activity as above will run against a company’s Salesforce database.

If the email address isn’t within the Salesforce database, a new contact will be created.

A list of fields would need to be established in advance of the activity so they can be populated.

Alternatively if the contact already exists within the company's Salesforce database, the record would be updated with a note about the activity undertaken.
