Prudential: Oracle technical - April edition is now available

Happy New Year!

Well, happy new tax year. After all, what other year matters?!

This month we avoid looking at the use of offshore tax havens, or perhaps we’re evading the issue…

So, what are we looking at this month?

Moira continues to illuminate us all with the weird and wonderful world of public sector pensions. It’s a bit “techy”, but crucial if you want to  understand how September’s negative CPI figure affects public sector benefits.

Continuing the pension theme Mark covers off the main points of pension scheme newsletter 77 issued recently.

Our pensions questions from the helpline cover the new hot topics for 2016 – tapering annual allowance, taking benefits when over the lifetime allowance and the new death benefit taxation rules.

Going into 2016/17,  Graeme looks at the tax and allowance changes affecting OEICs and offshore and onshore bonds.

The tenth anniversary of IIP trusts being brought into the relevant property regime has prompted Gerry to do an article on discounted gift trusts and the potential pitfalls and things you need to know.

We enter a new tax year but the tax and trust wing of the helpline have been getting their usual quota of calls on bond taxation – the most common ones are covered.

Finally, on the run up to tax year end Graeme, Mark and I were also busy writing and preparing the case study for our Q2 seminar programme that’s currently running around the country.  We quite like it and hope you might like to come along to an event near you to hear all about it.  You can get further information on the events and register here – https://www.prudential-events.co.uk/planning-matters/home/

I hope you can make time to attend one of the events and we may see you there.
